Why would a capture card ever drop CPU utilization? The system already had to do the work to put the image together after all. it never leaves the video card, just is copied to a new memory location in VRAM for OBS to use. This is a very simplified layout, as each step is actually a lot longer (having to callback to OBS for certain steps, callback to DirectShow, even more overhead) but it should be sufficient to demonstrate exactly why using the native stuff is better. VRAM->Video Out->Video In->CapCard Program->DirectShow->VRAM.With a capture card that can't be addressed via DS and needs its own program and window capturing that, it even goes further: VRAM->Video Out->Video In->DirectShow->VRAM.With an actual physical capture card, more steps are added: As DXtory presents itself as a video capture device/fake webcam, it has to go through DirectShow as well, which is a BIG slowdown. With DXtory, it is captured by the program into system memory, then written back to the video card. In OBS, Game Capture and Window Capture (Aero ON) grab video frames directly from VRAM and copies it to the part of VRAM OBS is using for compositing the scene. The easiest way is to show a 'capture pipeline'. The capture card is the most likely to lower the stress on your CPU but both of these cost money :CĮdit2: Also if you have your x264 CPU preset set to anything farther than VeryFast then it might also cause you some problems, at least with lower end hardware. You can also use a capture card that has it's own h.264 encoder. I use DxTory for PC to send a video signal. It might be slowing down your computer enough that it's causing an audio/visual lag. Sorry if this isn't what you were looking for, Good luck!Įdit: Possibly try a different way of having video sent to OBS. But I basically give the same answer, just with a bit more detail. ![]() I've already replied to someone that had a similar problem, so I"m going to link you to it and maybe it can help you. I don't know any other way of fixing such a problem. Have you tried restarting the stream every now and then (like every 2 or so hours) ? That might solve your problem, though it can get tedious.
